I observed this bison bull in a herd in northern Virginia. I spent many days and hours watching the dynamics of a herd of about 40 – 45 cows, a young “junior” bull and this older guy. The ladies of the herd casually stood around their herd master with calves in tow. He maintained a rather nonchalant demeanor, but the cows kept their eyes on me. Cows are fiercely loyal mothers and are quick to discourage an unwanted presence among them.
