This bison cow and her young calf were part of a herd in Colorado. Bison cows are devoted moms. I have observed moms shading their offspring with their beards in the heat of summer. The calves stick pretty much to their moms the first couple of months; this calf was just a couple of weeks old. The color of their coats are a giveaway to approximate age, as they do not start turning of a brownish coat with irregular dark spots until they are a couple of months old.
