Dakota Legend is just as the name implies. This beautiful, albino bull calf is just what makes a legend. Not only did his remarkable birth on May 31, 2008, make history at the National Buffalo Museum, Jamestown, ND, there are now three “rare” albino bisons residing at the museum. The odds cannot be calculated on the birth of a true “white” (albino) bison. Legend’s mother is a normal brown bison, who is also pure bison. Legend’s sire is Dakota Thunder, a normal brown bison, who is also the 2005 son of White Cloud, the museum’s only female albino bison.
It is an understatement to say that this is rare animal legendary. A white bison is considered to be sacred creatures by many Native American people, giving this magnificent animal a stature of symbolizing peace, unity and hope. Still, to others, the white bison symbolizes great changes in the world.
